What Makes Crown Unique?

CROWN PRIMARY SCHOOL

This year a group of pupils from P4 – P7 have been working with children in Nursery – P7, their families and staff to answer the question ‘What Makes Crown Unique?’.

The ‘What Makes Crown Unique?’ group have worked together to create a video to capture Crown Primary School. They’ve done this through writing a clever narrative, creating some super animations and demonstrating some skillful camera techniques.

The video will sit as part of the school’s rationale for children, their families, staff and any visitors we have along the way.

We’d love to hear your thoughts.

We had a blast!

We had a fantastic day out for our P4 trip ! We all enjoyed Angry Birds (even the adults) and we had a lovely time at the park.  A big ‘thank you’ to SOCS for funding our trip and a special mention to the lovely ladies who came along with us.

A plea for help!

Sorry to ask again but we have no volunteers for our summer trip on Tuesday 21st June.  I appreciate that this is a busy time of year for everyone but if you are able to help out on Tuesday and can come along on our trip, this would be much appreciated.  Please phone the office on Monday ASAP and leave a message if you are free.  A minimum of 3 adults will be necessary for our trip to go ahead.

Many thanks 🙂

Ground Rules

In HWB Primary 4 have created a set of ground rules so we can responsibly deal with our  ‘Growing Up’ topic.

  • Be sensible and responsible with the information from this topic
  • Be trustworthy – don’t take this topic out of the classroom and into the playground
  • Our bodies are private to us
  • Only one person talking at a time and treat others respectfully
  • DO talk to your parents and share your learning

P4 Summer Trip

Picnic-clipart-clipart-cliparts-for-you

Our class Summer Trip is on Tuesday 21st June.  We will begin by walking down to Eden Court for a 10.00am showing of Angry Birds (rated U).  A very big thank you to the parent council as the cost of the film will be covered by the money that would have been spent on the bus.

‘Set on an island populated only by these tropical, flightless birds, they are the exact opposite of angry – happy, in fact. Their paradise is about to disrupted; however, as they soon learn that they aren’t the only inhabitants anymore.’

After the film we will then walk to Bellfield Park, where we will have a picnic lunch and a play before walking the rest of the way back to school.

All children will require a snack and a drink for Eden Court, for eating while watching the movie and then a packed lunch and a drink for the picnic.  You may bring a small amount of money, no more than £2 (with parent permission) for buying an ice cream at park.

As always, come prepared for all weathers.  Sunhat and sun cream, a waterproof jacket and suitable shoes for walking and playing all day!  If you have a light weight picnic rug this would be great.  We will take school bags with us to carry our goodies but please remember to remove reading books and pencil cases.  Only carry what is necessary. 🙂

Growing Up

This week we will begin our Health and Wellbeing topic: Growing Up.  As part of a safe and secure ethos to support this topic, children will be encouraged to share learning at home and it would be great if you can encourage your child to talk to you about what they have learned.

Below is the intended learning within our ‘Growing Up’ topic which is part of the Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood strand within Health and Wellbeing:

  • Describe where living things come from and how they grow and develop.
  • Know and use correct names for body parts.
  • Talk about some of the changes in the body that occur as they grow older.
  • Know about the process of fertilisation and understand the process of birth.
  • Know that their body is private to them.
  • Know who to talk to, either at home or school, if they are upset.
  • Think about taking risks and discuss making the right choices to stay safe.

Always look for and use our strengths

Today in Bounceback we discussed our character strengths. We shared about times we had shown strength of character, for example when we had been brave, grateful, helpful, polite, co-operative. We chatted about the phrase the famous philopsopher Aristotle said, “You are what you repeatedly do.” We thought that the more we took opportunities to be kind, the kinder we’d become. Or if we wanted to become brave, we could try and take opportunities to be brave and we would become more brave!

Magnificent Maths

Over the last couple of weeks we have been describing, following and recording routes and journeys using signs, words and angles associated with direction and turning.

We have had time outside exploring using a compass and played a fun game called Sat Nav, where we had to read directions to a partner and get them to follow them. We have also been learning about turning anti clockwise and clockwise and also about 90 degree and 180 degree turns.

Today we worked with a partner or trio and designed our own Treasure Island. We have hidden some treasure and have written directions using all that we have learned, so that next week our friends can try and find it! Wish us luck! We ‘d love to find the treasure!
